One of the largest logistic company in the world, United Parcel Service (UPS), is all geared up to enter the world of Metaverse. It intends to cater to diverse logistical need in the virtual world.

The concept of Metaverse has managed to garner an unprecedented popularity in recent times. Multi-billion dollar companies have started to acquire their own pieces of virtual land. Virtual real estate platforms such as The Sandbox and Decentraland, have sold digital plots of land at stratospheric prices. Global conglomerates including, Nike, Samsung, NVIDIA, Boeing, PwC Hong Kong Unit among many others have already dipped their toes in the waters of the metaverse.

On April 11, Mike Kondoudis, a non-fungible token (NFT) trademark attorney, announced in a tweet that UPS has filed a Metaverse-related trademark application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The application submitted cover over a variety of virtual and NFT goods and services including non-fungible tokens (NFT), virtual retail shipping and delivery, marketplaces for digital goods and retail stores featuring virtual goods.

Kondoudis expressed the UPS expects to be a major player in that virtual economy. He said that with changing times, a company also needs to change the way it operates. UPS is a global shipping and delivery brand and to protect its brand, entering the metaverse seems a logical move. Kondoudis wrote,

“UPS is a global shipping and delivery brand, and the value attached to its trademarks is significant. These filings are the next logical step to protect the UPS brand as it enters the metaverse.”

According to the announcement, UPS will provide virtual packages, shipping labels, clothing, uniforms, headwear and vehicles within virtual environments. The firm filed new patent applications to register United Parcel Service, The UPS Store, UPS, and the UPS Logo.
