Will Smith Inu Meme Coin Is up Over 2000% Since Launch

A token called “Will Smith Inu” (WSI), born after the infamous Will Smith and Chris Rock fiasco, has witnessed an anomalous spike of over 2000 per cent since its launch.

As famously said by Elbert Hubbard, “Do not take life too seriously. You will never get out of it alive.” It seems meme coin developers are abiding by the quote a tad bit seriously. It took less than 24 hours since Will Smith smacked Chris Rock on the grand stage of the Academy Awards for a cryptocurrency to be forged.

According to CoinMarketCap, WSI has soared by a whooping 3317 per cent to currently hover at around $0.000258. The token has a trading volume of $2,475,596 in the last 24 hours. It began trading on the decentralized exchange Uniswap (UNI) right after it was launched with buyers rushing in to capitalize on the infamous event at the Oscars last Sunday.

Will Smith Inu was created by an unknown person or a group of people following the incident during which Hollywood actor Will Smith slapped his fellow actor and comedian Chris Rock on stage in the middle of the show. The debacle happened after Rock took a jibe on the shaved head of Jada Pinkett Smith, Smith’s wife. Apparently, Pinkett Smith has an autoimmune condition called alopecia.

As per the WSI website, there is a “Will Map” that outlines the project’s next steps. In the “Will 1” stage, a ‘litepaper’ is set to be published, while the “Will 2” stage will see both a team expansion and the launch of a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO). “Will 3” will see some influencer campaigns and “Will 4” will witness the launch of WSITTOOLS.

The FOMO doesn’t seem to stop here. Katie Notoupolos, a senior technology reporter for BuzzFeed News tweeted on March 28 about something called “Will Smith Slap DAO” selling non-fungible tokens (NFT) on the OpenSea marketplace. To date, the DAO NFT collective has sold over 13 ETH worth of the NFTs, which is more than $40,000.

All That Glitters Is Not Gold

However, all that glitters is not gold. Many other tokens created in the past that were also inspired by amusing news events had rarely been good investments. Last year a meme token based on the popular Netflix series “Squid Game” (SQUID) gained massive traction surging past 110,000 per cent. But sadly, just after a couple of days later, the Squid Game scammers disappeared after a rug pull looting almost $3 million from investors.
