The founder of the Ethereum smart contract platform, Vitaly Buterin, cited an interesting fact from his biography, saying that in 2013 he wanted to get an internship at the California-based company OpenCoin, which was later renamed Ripple Labs.
According to him, this happened in the middle of 2013, when he lived in Canada. He, however, was denied a visa, because according to the law, the inviting company had to be at least a year, while OpenCoin had worked for only nine months by that time.

OpenCoin was founded in September 2012 by Chris Larsen and Jed McCaleb, and if, as Buterin says, the company had worked for nine months by the time of filing for a US visa, it can be assumed that this happened in June 2013.
Ethereum founder's comment was given in response to tweet by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, who shared a link to the news of Chinese entrepreneur Eric Yuan, the largest shareholder in Zoom Video Communications Inc. Last Wednesday, the company raised $ 751 million through an IPO on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, however, according to Bloomberg, previously, the US government denied him a visa eight times.

The head of the Tron Foundation, Justin Sun, who, according to his LinkedIn profile, became the first employee of Ripple Labs in China and worked for the company until January 2016, also joined the discussion between Armstrong and Buterin. In particular, he suggested that if Buterin were in Ripple, they would certainly have become good friends.

David Schwartz also commented on COO Ripple Labs on COO Ripple Labs in a joking manner. According to him, he is still sad that this happened, however, suggested Schwartz, maybe Buterinu makes sense to try again, because Ripple always needs good interns.
