The government of Uzbekistan has ordered an increase in the electricity tariff for miners that mine cryptocurrencies by 300%.
On the eve of the Cabinet of Ministers of the state decided that crypto miners are required to pay 3 times the current electricity tariffs in the country. This decision came after the President of Uzbekistan undertook to study issues regarding measures to improve energy efficiency in various sectors related to the country's economy, as well as the introduction of energy-saving technologies and the promotion of renewable energy sources in late August. So, the authorities want to urge society to the rational consumption of electricity.
Recall that last fall, the Digital Trust Foundation appeared in Uzbekistan, the main task of which is to integrate blockchain technology with various government projects, including healthcare, education, and culture. The organization promotes the flow of investor funds in the digital economy of Uzbekistan.
Legalization of operations with cryptocurrencies and mining in Uzbekistan took place in July 2018, while it was still assumed that crypto trading would not be taxable, but such activity was subject to mandatory licensing.
