In 2018 the inflow of Bitcoins on the darknet market where you can buy everything – from drugs to stolen personal data, decreased by $ 100 million compared to 2017 and totaled $ 600 million Such data are in his. Research analyst firm Chainalisys.

The reduction in the volume of bitcoin transactions is explained by the activities of law enforcement agencies, which in 2017 closed two large trading platforms of the darknet AlphaBay and Hansa.

True, by the end of 2018, the bitcoin inflow rates had recovered – operations on the darknet market using bitcoin by the end of 2018 reached $ 2 million per day. This is almost two times more than at the beginning of the year.

According to Chainalysis Chief Economist Kim Grauer (Kim Grauer), a drop in the cost of Bitcoin has virtually no effect on the activity of the darknet users:

“If someone wants to buy something on the darknet market, the fluctuations in the value of Bitcoin do not matter to him. The situation can only be affected by the closure of some darknet marketplaces. ”

Recall that in the summer of 2018 in the United States, as a result of a secret operation against illicit goods dealers last year, 35 people were arrested in the darknet. Among other things, law enforcement agencies confiscated about 2,000 bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies for more than $ 20 million.

The founder of one of the most famous drug trafficking sites of the darknet Silk Road Ross Ulbricht (Ross Ulbricht) is serving a double life sentence in prison. In June 2018, the US Supreme Court refused to reconsider this decision.
