On Tuesday, April 16, the State Duma deputies adopted in final, third reading a law on runet isolation. 307 deputies voted “for” (68.2%), 68 (15.1%) voted against.
On April 22, the law on the isolation of the Runet will be considered by the Council of the Federation, then it will be handed over for signature to the president.
The provisions of the law provide for the creation of a national system for routing Internet traffic, effectively closing it within the country.
Roskomnadzor will receive virtually unlimited powers, and in the event of a system failure, the Internet service providers will not be liable.
The Runet Isolation Law will come into force on November 1, 2019 , and its individual provisions on cryptographic protection of information and on the national domain name system will start on January 1, 2021.
