At the beginning of 2019, the infrastructure of the Lightning Network (LN) continues to grow rapidly – the number of nodes on this second-tier network has increased by 16.57% over the past 30 days.
According to the 1ml service, currently the number of LN nodes is 5008. These nodes connect more than 17 thousand payment channels, through which 532 BTC is transmitted in total, which is equivalent to $ 2 million.
On average, 29 new nodes and 462 new channels appear every day. The total number of the latter has increased over the month by 36%.
Recently, a veteran of the cryptoindustry and tech-director of start-up Casa Jameson Lopp, published a tweet comparing the status of the Lightning Network in December 2018 and a year ago, when only a few LN nodes and channels worked:

Recall that in the past month, blockstream-blockstream company Blockstream announced the addition of Lightning Network support to the data transfer service of a Bitcoin network between space satellites.
