    protocol took place

On Thursday, January 3, the day of the 10th anniversary of the creation of the genesis block of Bitcoin, the ecosystem was replenished with another product aimed at ensuring the privacy of users. They became a new cryptocurrency based on the Bitcoin blockchain Beam from the eponymous startup from Israel.

First introduced in 2016 , the Mimblewimble project was initially focused on scaling Bitcoin and increasing user privacy. After some time, the developers of Mimblewimble, however, came to the conclusion about the need for their own cryptocurrency.

Grin was considered the flagship and best-known project all this time, but the first implementation of the protocol was successfully implemented by Beam – a project that started in spring 2018, successfully attracted venture capital, which was able to outrun Grin with the launch.

The Beam blog says that with the launch of the main network, users are available:

    • Desktop mining application for CPU for Linux, Mac, Windows
    • CLI Wallet (Linux, Mac, Windows)
    • Beam Node (Linux, Mac, Windows)
    • Separate OpenCL miner (Linux and Windows)
    • Separate miner Cuda (Linux and Windows)

The Beam team is also working on two additional projects – Project Lumini and Beam Lightning. The first is designed to combine Beam and Ethereum, the second – integrates the Beam with the Lightning Network.

Recall that in December 2018, Grin developers also received financial support – this was made possible thanks to investments of $ 2.1 million from PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel and Digital Currency Group Barry Silbert in the Layer1 platform. The latter is working to create an infrastructure that will ensure the further growth of Grin. The launch of the project is expected on January 15th.
