As it became known, the hacker who organized the 51% attack on the cryptocurrency Ethereum Classic returned $ 100,000 by transferring money to the Gate.io exchange.
Representatives of the exchange made attempts to contact the hacker, but he does not get in touch. So the reason for the return of funds to the exchange is not yet known.
Exchange Gate.io made the following statement:
If an attacker does not use hacking for profit, he may be a “white hacker” who wants to remind people of the risks in the blockchain consensus and security hashing.
The White Hacker is a hacker with a strong professional ethic who uses his abilities for good, not for personal gain.
Exchange Gate.io published an analysis of the 51% attack, which shows that a total of 54,200 ETC was transferred during the alleged hacking (approximate amount – 271,500 US dollars).
Charlie Lee, the founder of a large altcoin Litecoin (LTC), recently stated that by definition a decentralized cryptocurrency can be subject to an attack of 51%.
And what do you think about this?
