The movements of the family of the Russian Alexander Vinnik – the seriously ill wife of Alexandra Shevchenko and two minor sons – are controlled by his own lawyer Timofey Musatov. About this BlockchainJournal told an informed source.

Note that Musatov is probably not an independent figure in this story. It is widely known that for many years he has defended the interests of Natalia Kasperskaya and her husband Igor Ashmanov. The lawyer himself denies the latter’s involvement in the BTC-e case and any connection with Vinnik. Nevertheless, the companies CREDITSAILS LLC (co-founder Vinnik) and Informatic LLC (co-founder Ashmanov) are located in Moscow at the same address in Bolshoi Kozikhinsky Lane.

As BlockchainJournal wrote earlier, Vinnik, according to information from a number of sources, has access to offshore accounts with $ 1 billion of withdrawn funds from the exchange. This is presumably the main reason why his potential extradition to the USA is so disadvantageous to the players involved in the story from the Russian side.

Vinnika was detained on July 25, 2017 on the beach of the Greek Peninsula of Halkidiki while on holiday with his family on charges of laundering at least $ 4 billion through the BTC-th cryptocurrency exchange. In the hotel, where they stayed, they were searched, as a result of which, in addition to Vinnik’s equipment, law enforcement officers seized his wife’s personal computer and mobile phones, as well as tablets of his children.

In December 2017, Alexandra Shevchenko was suddenly diagnosed with a rather rare carcinoma of the brain. The fact that the disease appeared as if from nowhere was indirectly confirmed by Timofey Musatov in an interview :

“The situation there is very complicated, but one thing is clear: a tumor has arisen due to stress. Everything that happens for her, apparently, was a serious test. "

Alexander was transported to Germany, where neurosurgeons of the Ludwig-Maximilians University Hospital of Munich confirmed the diagnosis – a malignant tumor of the third stage (the doctors' opinion is at the disposal of the editorial board). Presumably, Shevchenko was operated.

Since Shevchenko and Vinnyk have “no special relatives” (quoting Musatov’s words [11:57]), the lawyer, according to the source, persuaded the seriously ill woman to hand over children to her and formalized custody of them. Musatov let out that the babysitter and the guards he hired are now looking after the children. [12:06]

It should be noted that in the materials of the interrogation in the Greek court of September 2017, Alexander Shevchenko mentions his parents living in Moscow.

Responding to the BlockchainJournal request, Timofey Musatov did not comment on the information about the whereabouts of the Vinnik family. He also did not answer the question about the current status of his client’s wife, citing medical confidentiality, and said that the public only needs to know that lawyers are struggling for the fate of Vinnik.

The source said that the first year in the Greek prison, Alexander Vinnik had no connection with the outside world and received all the information about the state of his wife exclusively from Musatov.

In the same period, according to the source, the lawyer received at least $ 4 million from VEX owner Dmitry Vasiliev to protect Vinnik and to provide him with everything he needed (including mobile phone). In the comments BlockchainJournal Vasiliev confirmed the fact of transfer of funds, without naming the amount.

Nevertheless, these funds, according to the source, settled in the pocket of Timofey Musatov – Vinnik spent the first year in prison without a phone and cigarettes. Even the Greek lawyers, in fact, leading his case, received less money.

The source claims that Musatov, who does not speak foreign languages (this fact was confirmed by the BlockchainJournal by a person who worked with him on other matters in Europe), does not conduct the Vinnik case personally, but manages the trial through Greek lawyers Xanfippi Moisidou, Alexandros Likourezos, Ilias Spirliadis and Zoya Constantopoulou, who then send him reports and documents.

Earlier in an interview with the Russian radio station Vesti FM, Timofey Musatov said that he was allegedly approached by representatives of the American special services with a proposal to make a deal with the investigation – Vinnik, who in the US faces up to 55 years in prison, must surrender major Russian officials who laundered money through BTC -e. Vinnik himself in the same interview confirmed that he personally did not receive such requests.

According to the source, Musatov personally visited the US Embassy in Athens, where, most likely, the case of Vinnik was discussed. BlockchainJournal tried to clarify with Musatov information about his intended visit to the embassy. The lawyer first typed the message, then stopped writing and completely hid his activity.

It is noteworthy that Sergey Mayzus, the owner of Money Polo, one of the payment systems through which BTC-e clients replenished their accounts (being a witness in the case of Vinnik), also suspects Musatov of extradition of Vinnik to Russia.

In turn, in one of his correspondence, Timofey Musatov called Sergei Maizus “his fee”, stating that “powers of attorney” were written out to him, which give him the right to collect “everything that is possible” from Maizus. Mayzus himself does not know what specific powers of attorney are involved, but he personally saw one signed by Alexander Vinnik.

Recall that at present Alexander Vinnik is awaiting trial, at which his sentence in the Greek prison will be revised or extended. The meeting is scheduled for April 11th.
