President of Belarus announced that he will develop Bitcoin mining and IT sector

On April 12, during a meeting with representatives of the IT sector in the High-Tech Park, Alexander Lukashenko stated that he “left a place” near the Belarusian NPP under construction, where it would be possible to mine bitcoins .

    The president said :

“Wait, we will introduce a nuclear power plant, (there will be) a surplus of electricity … I left a place there. We will build farms and mine these bitcoins and sell them. Moreover, they say that if there is Bitcoin, it’s not a problem to sell it. ”

The first power unit of the Belarusian NPP, located near Ostrovets, Grodno region, should be commissioned in December 2019, the second – in the summer of 2020.

Last autumn, the final rules of the cryptocurrency sector were set in the High Technology Park in Minsk, a special economic zone that the creators dream of seeing as an analogue of Silicon Valley in the USA.

Earlier, Decree No. 8 “On the Development of the Digital Economy” legitimized cryptocurrency exchanges, cryptocurrency exchange and mining operators in Belarus.

In the course of communication with the HTP residents, the president assured them that he would support Belarusian IT specialists and “would not give them any offense”.

“Because, by and large, you are my children. I did it with my own hands, as I was able, I created you, and then you grew up, started to suggest how to go. You wanted cryptocurrency, cryptobirth, mining, etc., to create a farm. Together we will go this way, ” Lukashenka assured.

Commenting on the development prospects of this sector in the country, the head of state noted:

“Everyone understood that without IT it’s impossible, we’ll be left behind. We are a country not spoiled with hydrocarbons, I understand that. (…) It was necessary to develop the state and go into some sphere to ensure the independence of a country that lives in a beautiful and very dangerous place – in the center of Europe. Then I had to think about greater independence, about the fact that we were not bent, as I often say, did not put bast shoes on our feet, as it has always been in history. We can not stop, we have to go forward, because if we don’t do it, others will do it, they will bypass us. ”
