The developers of the most popular client of the Bitcoin network Bitcoin Core have announced the release of a new software version under version 0.18.0. This release came with native support for hardware wallets .

This option will allow full node operators to directly interact with hardware wallets like Ledger and Trezor .

At this stage, the interaction between Bitcoin Core full nodes and hardware wallets is performed using the command line, however, the developers plan to make the interface more friendly by opening the function for users who do not have specialized knowledge.

Additionally, a tool called `bitcoin-wallet` has been added to Bitcoin Core 0.18.0. It allows you to create a Bitcoin wallet file without having to resort to the help of the remote call function, as well as view basic information about an existing wallet, including its encryption status, use of the check phrase and the number of transactions performed.

In the Send tab, the checkbox is removed, forcing the user to pay only the required amount of commission. Instead, it became possible to customize the size of the commission, reducing it to the configured minimum commission for broadcasting a transaction to the network.

The new release also changed some other elements of the user interface, added and updated a number of commands for remote call procedures, designed primarily for developers, added additional error protection for miners , eliminated other minor bugs.

Recall the release of Bitcoin Core 0.17.0 was held in October 2018.
