In a press release sent out by the transnational giant Nestlé, which is engaged in food retailing, it is reported that the company will control the supply chain of its products using blockchain technology .
The pilot blockchain will be launched in January 2020 in partnership with the OpenSC blockchain, created jointly with WWF-Australia and BCG Digital Ventures.
Magdy Batato, Vice President and Head of Operations at Nestlé SA, commented on the company's plans:
“We want our consumers to make an informed decision about the choice of products – that is, choose products made with full responsibility. The open blockchain technology will allow us to share trusted information with our customers. ”
Thanks to the Nestlé project, the company has a chance to become “the first large food and beverage company that announced the pilot use of the open blockchain technology”
First, the pilot program will monitor milk from farms and producers in New Zealand to factories and warehouses owned by Nestlé in the Middle East. The technology will then be expanded to track palm oil production in North and South America.
Other global retailers have also realized the potential of using blockchain technology to track supply chains. The Walmart and VeChain partnership will allow the retail giant to track products for its Chinese customers.
