Metamask Posts Security Tips for iCloud Users

Metamask posted security tips for its iCloud users that enable iCloud backup for app data including the Metamask app

Security Tips from Metamask

Only a few weeks ago, ConsenSys-owned MetaMask entered the Apple ecosystem by allowing consumers to purchase digital assets using Apple Pay. Clients may buy cryptocurrencies with debit or credit cards, eliminating the need to transmit ETH to the app ahead of time.

Its team has now informed the iCloud users on Metamask in a tweet on how to stay safe from phishing and hacking of their funds when using Apple’s iCloud backup for app data.

In a tweet on Sunday evening, the team advised the iCloud users with safety steps in a thread. For the users who have enabled the iCloud backup for app data, it will automatically include their password-encrypted Metamask vault.

“If your password isn’t strong enough, and someone phishes your iCloud credentials, this can mean stolen funds.”

The tweet noted.

However, the thread went ahead to point out how they can avoid the problem in a few steps.

This happens to be coming right after a user reported stolen funds,  $650,000 worth of cryptocurrencies, and NFTs removed by hackers.

About Metamask

MetaMask is a cryptocurrency wallet that interacts with the Ethereum network through software. Users can utilize a browser extension or a mobile app to access their Ethereum wallet, which can then be used to interact with decentralized applications. ConsenSys Software Inc., a blockchain software business specializing in Ethereum-based tools and infrastructure, created MetaMask.

MetaMask software is built to allow users to store and manage account keys, broadcast transactions, send and receive Ethereum-based cryptocurrencies and tokens, as well as allow them to securely connect to dapps through a compatible web browser.

The Ethereum wallet announced its own cryptocurrency about a month ago. This happened just as MetaMask crossed the 30 million monthly active user mark, and many customers were expecting an airdrop. Despite this, MetaMask’s Head of Operations earlier stated that the token will not be a “cash grab.”

The team also established a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO). Unlike other similar entities that are typically designed as an alternate governance model, the wallet’s primary objective will be to fund its development.
