The Irish government approved amendments to the law on countering money laundering and terrorist financing, which also contains clauses to tighten oversight of cryptocurrency exchanges and other companies in the bitcoin industry. Reports about it The Irish Times .

In general, the document aims to harmonize the local legal framework with the requirements of the EU directives on combating money laundering, as well as to strengthen the regulation of the cryptocurrency market. In particular, the new rules require cryptocurrency companies to conduct thorough verification of their customers. Anonymous transactions will also be prohibited.

“Money laundering is a crime. It unleashes the hands of dangerous criminals and terrorists destroying people's lives , ”said Irish Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan.

Recall that last December, the High Court of Ireland recognized the Ethereum cryptocurrency as “proceeds from a crime”.
