At least 340 British companies operating in the field of cryptocurrency and blockchain, were forced this year to cease operations. Of these, more than 60% were eliminated from June to November, according to Sky News .

Thus, the total number of cryptocurrency companies that were forced due to the market downturn and other reasons to stop working increased more than two and a half times compared with 2017, when 139 such firms were counted.

The data from the publication were taken from OpenCorporates, a site with information on British legal entities, and on the website of the UK Registration Chamber.

More than 200 of the companies that stopped working were registered in 2017. It is also noted that, for the first time, the number of registered companies grew more slowly than the number of closing companies.

Nevertheless, the number of new companies in 2018 did not decrease, but, on the contrary, increased. By November, there were already 817, which indicates a continuing interest in the industry. By closing the same projects led to a significant reduction in prices for almost all cryptocurrencies, and especially Bitcoin.

Recall, on the eve of a large-scale reduction of staff confirmed the largest manufacturer of mining equipment for the Chinese company Bitmain.
