The group, known as The Dark Overlord, threatens to make publicly available confidential documents that "reveal the truth" about the events of September 11, 2001, if those who may be affected by this information do not pay a ransom in Bitcoins .
The group’s statement also says that the names of all interested parties can be removed from the documents if they cooperate and pay the required amount.
If you believe the attackers, the documents contain information about the real circumstances under which the attacks of September 11 occurred. And these circumstances may be very different from the version in which the whole world believes.
"We will give a lot of answers about the September 11 conspiracy with the help of 18 thousand documents," the Dark Overlord said in a statement.
The group has already given a link to a 10GB document concerning the events of September 11, 2001, and threatens to open access to it if it does not receive a ransom. The file that the blackmailers claim will reveal the "truth about one of the most famous incidents in recent history, surrounded by mystery and not having many answers," contains secret government documents that were retained by some law firm instead of destroyed.
The Dark Overlord already has its “portfolio”
The group’s statements may not be just an empty threat, since in April last year, after a successful hacker attack, it had already published the personal data of 1,600 high-ranking government officials, despite the ransom received.
According to the information available, The Dark Overlord also hacked several companies, such as Netflix and plastic surgery clinics, offering confidential information for sale on the darknet to extort money from potential victims.
Other blackmailer victims include global insurance companies such as Lloyds of London and Hiscox Silverstein Properties, which owned the World Trade Center in New York, as well as various government agencies.
It also became known that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is suspending its plans to release digital currency, the Indian business news agency Hindu Business Line reported January 1. Earlier, in April, the Central Bank of India announced its intention to consider the introduction of the digital currency of the central bank (CBDC).
