Digital asset exchange-traded products (ETPs) have reached a historic milestone in 2025, already surpassing the total capital inflows recorded in the entire previous year. According to data published by James Butterfill, Head of Research at CoinShares, crypto ETPs have attracted an impressive $48.67 billion year-to-date. This figure slightly exceeds the $48.557 billion that was invested during the twelve months of 2024.
The achievement is solidified following a week of record-breaking flows, where investment products captured $5.95 billion. This momentum was crucial in surpassing the prior year’s mark. The figure demonstrates a significant acceleration in institutional adoption and growing market interest. Capital is flowing into regulated digital assets at an unprecedented rate, highlighting the sector’s maturity. Investors are using these vehicles to gain market exposure in a safer, more traditional way.
Although Bitcoin continues to lead in capital inflows, its dominance has notably decreased compared to last year. In 2025, Bitcoin funds have attracted nearly $30 billion, representing 62% of the total. However, this share is lower than what was recorded in 2024, when BTC funds captured 86% of inflows with $41.7 billion. This redistribution of capital suggests a diversification in the strategies of institutional investors.
The main beneficiary of this shift has been Ethereum. Ether-based funds have multiplied their performance, growing from $4.9 billion in 2024 to $14.1 billion so far in 2025. This growth has boosted Ethereum’s market share from 11% to 29% in just one year. The underlying Blockchain technology of these projects is increasingly attracting investors seeking potential beyond Bitcoin.
Solana and XRP Lead Among Altcoins
Diversification doesn’t stop with Ethereum. Other altcoins have also captured significant interest, most notably Solana (SOL) and XRP. According to Butterfill, inflows into altcoins appear to be concentrated mainly in these two assets for now. Solana has recorded flows of $2.7 billion year-to-date, while XRP has attracted $1.9 billion, solidifying their positions as the preferred options after the two market giants.
This landscape paints a more sophisticated and distributed crypto investment market than in previous years. The clear trend toward diversification indicates that investors no longer see Bitcoin as the sole entry point. With attention focused on upcoming regulatory decisions regarding new altcoin ETFs, this trend could accelerate further, redefining the balance of power in the crypto ETPs ecosystem.
