Asset manager Bitwise announced the fund liquidation of the Bitwise Dogecoin ETF on September 10, 2026. The corporate decision brings an end to the exchange-traded product less than eleven months following its commercial launch on public markets.
Trading under the ticker BWOW on NYSE Arca, the vehicle was originally launched on November 25, 2025. As of September 9, 2026, the fund held approximately 688,000 dollars in net assets, according to verified data published by the asset sponsor.
Bitwise officially stated that closing the vehicle enables the company to optimize its product catalog to match evolving investor demand. The firm confirmed it is working closely with NYSE Arca to execute an orderly delisting process.
Liquidation schedule and asset conversion timeline
The final day of secondary trading on the NYSE Arca exchange will be October 14, 2026. Shareholders retain the right to sell their holdings through standard brokerage accounts until the close of trading on that session.
The fund will cease all market operations after the closing bell on October 14. Bitwise will convert all remaining Dogecoin holdings into cash on that date and suspend the issuance of new creation units prior to the market open on October 15.
Final cash distributions will reflect the exact net asset value calculated at the market close on October 21, 2026. Capital disbursements to remaining registered shareholders are scheduled to occur on or around October 22, 2026.
All liquidation payouts will process automatically through primary brokers and custody clearing houses. Shareholders do not need to initiate manual administrative procedures to receive their pro-rata cash funds.
Fund metrics and structural operations
The official fund web page reported 8,195,053 units of Dogecoin held in trust as of September 4, 2026. That underlying inventory represented a market value of 694,760 dollars supporting 50,000 shares outstanding.
Bank of New York Mellon served as trust custodian and administrative manager, while Coinbase Custody Trust Company provided digital asset custody. Foreside Fund Services acted as marketing agent for the vehicle, which carried a 0.34% annual management fee.
Historical data up to August 31, 2026, showed a cumulative drop of 45.37% in net asset value since the product inception date. Over the first eight months of 2026, the fund registered a 28.67% decline in share value.
Institutional product realignment across crypto markets
Bitwise oversees more than 9 billion dollars in client capital across a lineup of over 70 investment strategies. This portfolio includes spot exchange-traded funds, separately managed client accounts, private investment trusts, and dedicated blockchain validation staking services.
The management team monitors liquidity shifts across the broader digital asset landscape, noting in its analysis on market cycles that changing macro trends and capital rotation heavily impact investor interest across specialized token offerings.
The modest capital base of BWOW underscores the structural friction facing single-asset memecoin products on institutional exchanges. Without broad client demand, maintaining specialized trusts becomes economically inefficient compared to major crypto asset vehicles.
Statutory filings clarified that BWOW was not an investment company registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940. Investors faced heightened volatility, potential secondary liquidity limits, and the unique risks stemming from the unlimited supply model of Dogecoin.
Following the October 14 closure, Bitwise will reallocate operational resources toward products with higher market liquidity. Custodians will finalize cash distributions on October 22 according to the verified asset balance established on October 21.
