Bitmain Technologies has announced the release of new 7-nm chips “with revolutionary energy efficiency” for mining cryptocurrencies based on the SHA256 algorithm.

According to the company's statement , the next-generation BM1397 “ ASIC chip will reach new heights in performance, chip area and energy efficiency for mining such cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) .” The chip is manufactured using the 7-nm FinFET process of the Taiwan corporation TSMC.

Bitmain claims that the energy efficiency of the BM1397 will be 28.6% higher than that of the previous 7 nm BM1391 chip, and the power consumption will be about 30 Joules per 1 TH of computing power (J / TH). To achieve these indicators, the development team “carefully tuned the design of the chip in order to optimize the architecture, design and efficiency”.

The new ASIC chips will be used in miners Antminer S17 and T17, which will be presented by the company later.

Recall that in November, Bitmain announced the release of two new ASIC miners with 7-nm chips, designed for the production of cryptocurrencies based on the algorithm SHA256 – Antminer S15 and T15 . It was argued that during the tests, the BM1391 mining chip used in the devices showed an energy efficiency of 42 J / TH.
