The functionality of the new version of the privacy-oriented Bitcoin Wallet user Samourai Wallet has been curtailed to meet the requirements of Google.

“Starting from version 0.99.04, we are turning off a number of functions due to the new, extremely strict Google rules that the company has implemented to better control the interaction experience of its users. Otherwise, our app would be removed from Google Play, ”says the tweet.

For example, “stealth-mode”, “protection against SIM switch” and the possibility of “remote command execution via SMS” were deleted from Samourai Wallet.

It is worth noting that these features were present in the Samourai Wallet as additional settings from the first release of the wallet in 2015.

“Stealth-mode” hid the wallet application in the event of a potential intruder accessing a mobile device. “SIM card switching protection” allowed the user to receive notifications when his phone number was transferred to a new SIM card, and “remote command execution via SMS” helped to erase the Bitcoin wallet data from the lost device.

The developers of Samourai Wallet have applied for an exclusive right to keep these functions, but Google rejected it.

“The corporation was not interested that removing these features would make users less protected and more vulnerable to attacks. In this regard, the full-fledged application Samourai Wallet so far will be distributed through third-party sources, ” they added.

Also, developers are advised to exit the stealth-mode before downloading the latest version of the wallet from Google Play.

Recall that in December Samourai Wallet updated the user interface and introduced its own full Bitcoin node.
