On the eve of the network, information began to appear that a large cryptocurrency exchange Binance was allegedly attacked by attackers, as a result of which they managed to seize the KYC data of the exchange’s clients.

The alleged data theft was commented on by Binance representatives. They said that on the eve of someone demanded that Binance 300 BTC in exchange for the fact that allegedly stolen user data would not be disclosed. The company draws attention to the fact that when comparing materials, inconsistencies were found. The ransomware did not provide any evidence that the data is actually related to the Binance user base.

The crypto exchange also notes that the data provided by the ransomware dates from the period when the crypto exchange began to cooperate with a company that provides support for the passage of the KYC procedure. Binance continues to investigate and has already contacted this company. Currently, there is a version that we are talking about a data leak, which became known in January 2019. Changpeng Zhao, head of Binance, encouraged users to ignore such FUD messages.

After the attacker was unable to "establish contact" directly with the exchange, he began to disseminate information about data leakage in the media, positioning himself as a "white hacker." Binance is already collaborating with law enforcement and has even promised a reward to someone who can help find the ransomware. The amount of the reward seems to depend on how useful the information will be, but the maximum reward is up to 25 BTC.
