hardware wallet appeared on Google Play
Hackers began to frequently add fake versions of cryptocurrency wallets to the Google Play application store in order to deceive users and steal their bitcoins.
The developers of the ESET antivirus reported detecting a fake version of the Trezor cryptograph in Google Play. It has been found that this malicious software can be misleading cryptocurrency holders.
People download a fake wallet and think they are installing a real Trezor. The malware page of the application is almost identical to the present, but the software itself no longer resembles the original version of the wallet.
Fake wallet already downloaded over a thousand users
According to ESET developers, the questionable application has already been downloaded by over a thousand Google Play users.
Researchers warn that the fake wallet is built in such a way that hackers can move its contents to the addresses indicated by them. This is not the first suspicious application, experts say, and as the cost of Bitcoin increases, their number will only increase.
“If Bitcoin keeps growing, we expect an increase in fraudulent cryptocurrency apps for Android,” the cybersecurity experts report says.
Users must always watch the developer’s official website, where a link to his wallet is indicated, before installing any digital currency application.
Trezor wallet developers have reported that questionable applications on Google Play do not pose a threat to users, but the company is concerned about the appearance of such a problem. After receiving claims from users and experts, the administration of the Google Play store has removed the application from its site.
