Liberty Media, the owner of the Formula 1 racing series, will launch a blockchain-based game with the goal of attracting a younger, technology-oriented community to race fans.

The game will be developed by the Hong Kong gaming company Animoca Brands and will be called F1 Delta Time. In the game, non-fungible tokens (NFT, ERC-721 tokens) will act as collection items.

NFT is a special type of blockchain- based token that is uniquely verifiable and fully owned by the owner who has the only opportunity to sell, use or exchange it .

For example, a player may own a car with unique characteristics or abilities that no other player has, and the owner may decide to take advantage of this, sell or exchange it. According to the Forbes report , "all the cars, drivers, and components in the game are NFT."

In addition, all NFT games "have special race day attributes that increase the chances of winning races and are made in limited quantities, determined by their rarity level." The game will be released on May 10th.

Formula One is one of the most recognizable sports brands in the world, and the new blockchain-based game will almost certainly attract a lot of attention to technology. According to the company Animoca, 1.6 billion spectators are watching Formula 1 competitions, and 4.1 million people attend the races personally.

"The ability to create a blockchain game for Formula One – one of the most recognizable sports brands in the world – is a significant achievement for our company ," said Yat Siu, co-founder and chairman of the company, Forbes.

"We will use the significant global coverage of Formula 1 to increase the access of ordinary people to blockchain technology."

In August last year, it was reported that one of the teams in Formula 1 was using Acronis blockchain solutions. The company provided its software for reliable storage of data generated by race car sensors.
