Startale Group — partner of Sony — has launched a U.S. dollar–pegged stablecoin, Startale USD (USDSC), on Soneium: the new Layer-2 network from Sony. The coin aims to serve as the backbone for payments, liquidity, and reward distribution across Soneium’s growing Web3 ecosystem.
Startale USD (USDSC) is described as an “institutional-grade” stablecoin, built on the modular stablecoin architecture of platform M0. This infrastructure supports programmable issuance, liquidity, and settlement — giving Soneium a native dollar-pegged asset from its inception. With USDSC, Soneium now offers users a stable, familiar currency to handle payments, transfers, and on-chain economic activity — an important milestone for mainstream Web3 adoption.
Alongside the stablecoin launch, Startale Group introduced a rewards program called STAR Points. Through the companion Startale App (the “super-app” interface for Soneium), users can earn STAR Points by minting or holding USDSC, providing liquidity, or interacting with apps on the network. This design intends to incentivize on-chain participation, liquidity provisioning, and growth of user engagement on Soneium, while making crypto feels more like a conventional app experience.
At the launch of the network in January 2025, Soneium was positioned as a versatile Layer-2 built over Ethereum with aims at gaming, entertainment, finance and Web3 adoption. The addition of a stablecoin like USDSC transforms it from a blockchain “sandbox” into an ecosystem with potential for real-world payments, trading, DeFi, or even as a base for tokenized assets and financial products — by providing price-stability and liquidity.
A new digital dollar for Soneium
USDSC arrives at a time when Japan is showing growing regulatory openness hacia stablecoins y monedas digitales reguladas, impulsando el desarrollo de infraestructuras cripto institucionales.
