The cryptocurrency community has been shaken by the sudden closure of Inferno Drainer, a service specialized in the theft of digital currencies that has generated losses of almost $70 million this year.

This platform, which offered tools for emptying cryptocurrency wallets using phishing techniques, has announced its definitive closure after a turbulent operation that has affected more than 100,000 people.

The news follows a message posted on Telegram on November 26 by the team behind Inferno Drainer, stating that it was “time to move on.”

Although they ensure the cessation of their operations, they leave the infrastructure intact to allow users a smooth transition to other similar services.

Inferno Drainer’s modus operandi was to offer software designed to empty cryptocurrency wallets, earning a 20% commission on the profits generated by users through theft.

This illegal practice has raised concern among the community and authorities such as the FBI

The authorities have warned about phishing scams and hijackings of social media accounts within the field of cryptocurrencies.

CertiK, a Blockchain security firm, has identified Inferno Drainer as one of the most harmful phishing kits in the community, also pointing out the existence of other similar active services such as Pink Drainer and Angel Drainer.

The latter even recently launched an update to expand its reach and facilitate the emptying of wallets in various blockchains.

Inferno Drainer’s closure follows the precedent set by Monkey Drainer, another similar service that closed operations in March of this year, saying it was “time to move on to something better.”
