Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission confirmed it will coordinate with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society to block Bitget’s website and mobile applications starting on December 5, 2026. The intervention addresses unlicensed commercial services targeting domestic investors.
The legal action originated from a criminal complaint filed before the Economic Crime Suppression Division of the Royal Thai Police. Regulators detailed these enforcement proceedings via an official SEC press notice concerning the company’s operating legal entity.
Official documentation indicates that Bitget provided asset trading features and charged user fees between 2022 and 2025 without holding authorization under the Digital Asset Decree of 2018. The agency cited targeted Thai-language content and promotional channels aimed directly at local residents.
Thai officials advised local users to withdraw their digital assets before access is fully severed at the network level. Regulatory oversight regarding offshore exchanges gained momentum following public warnings issued in the official investor alert database listing maintained by the market supervisor.
The clampdown forms part of a broader supervisory approach toward digital asset platforms. The national framework shifted recently as Thailand tightens crypto policies to ensure market oversight across domestic capital flows.
Simultaneously, the jurisdiction expanded regulated investment vehicles for wholesale and institutional capital. Under this structure, the Thailand SEC mandates exposure parameters for spot cryptocurrency exchange-traded products, restricting eligible holdings strictly to domestic, compliant frameworks.
Bitget had previously pursued an agreement to acquire a controlling stake in a locally licensed exchange to regularize its presence. That transaction remains pending regulatory clearance, leaving the company without a valid license ahead of the enforcement deadline.
The technical block against Bitget’s web access and mobile application endpoints is set to take effect upon expiration of the official notice on December 5.
