SoFi Technologies unveiled on October 22, 2026, its new SoFi Earn tokenized deposit program, known as SOFIE. The mechanism delivers a variable 4.40% annual yield on cash balances maintained by eligible account holders in the United States.
The product operates without minimum deposit mandates or account upkeep charges. Each minted SOFIE token corresponds directly to one dollar held in custody on the balance sheet of the federally chartered bank.
Funds held in SOFIE accounts carry standard statutory protections issued by American authorities. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation protects these positions with coverage reaching up to $250,000 per depositor for each legal account ownership category.
Customers can switch deposited capital around the clock at a fixed one-to-one conversion rate. The system exchanges deposit units for SoFiUSD, the proprietary dollar-pegged stablecoin utilized across the company’s retail crypto ecosystem.
Users can deploy SoFiUSD to purchase supported digital assets or initiate withdrawals to whitelisted external addresses. However, documentation clarifies that SoFiUSD carries no FDIC protection, shifting operational market exposure entirely to the digital asset holder.
Regulatory Alignment and Banking Supervision
The product introduction follows key regulatory milestones established across the United States banking framework. On October 21, 2026, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency issued definitive guidance regarding how OCC mandates full reserve backing under the GENIUS Act for payment stablecoins.
That federal statutory architecture takes regulatory effect in mid-January 2027. It defines reserve composition metrics, liquidity benchmarks, and administrative responsibilities for chartered commercial institutions managing dollar-backed digital settlement tools.
The initiative executes plans initially formulated during the first half of 2026. Industry reporting in May 2026 disclosed that the bank planned yield-generating tokenized balances once operational infrastructure for its native stablecoin achieved wide retail deployment.
Institutional Yield and On-Chain Liquidity
Regulated yield solutions are also expanding rapidly across wholesale digital markets. Recent industry developments include platforms where Anchorage and Kamino facilitate borrowing against collateralized blockchain holdings without extracting the assets from qualified institutional custody.
The operational rollout of SOFIE will proceed in progressive stages, concluding its release through November of 2026. Account holders will administer their balances through a dedicated deposit portal linked to their existing digital asset accounts.
SoFi verified that external wallet connectivity will permit programmatic movement between depository balances and on-chain tools. The yield schedule remains tied to overnight benchmark rates, adjusting according to future monetary policy determinations by the Federal Reserve.
