Fidelity Investments submitted an official regulatory filing to incorporate network staking rewards into its spot Ether exchange-traded product in the United States, officially named the Fidelity Ethereum Fund (FETH). The documentation was filed on August 11, 2026.
According to the preliminary prospectus with SEC regulators, the firm envisions that the FETH fund may stake up to 100% of Ether holdings under normal operational market conditions.
This prospective staking allocation excludes only the portion of Ether required to satisfy daily share redemptions from investors, fulfill fund administrative expenses, and maintain necessary liquidity buffers. The proposed fund framework specifies that FETH will retain 85% of staking rewards generated through consensus validation activities on the underlying Ethereum blockchain.
The remaining 15% portion of generated staking rewards will be allocated toward covering technical execution fees and infrastructure operational expenses paid to service partners. Under the terms outlined in the filing, Fidelity plans to issue cash distributions directly to shareholders, with payouts projected to occur on a quarterly schedule.
The regulatory prospectus highlights to prospective investors that quarterly cash distributions remain subject to operational variables and are not guaranteed to occur in fixed amounts.
Fidelity outlined plans to launch staking operations as soon as practicable following the date when the amended registration statement becomes formally effective. The current registration document functions as a preliminary prospectus, remaining subject to review, potential revisions, and regulatory approval before becoming active.
By filing this amendment, the financial institution aims to satisfy institutional and retail demand for passive yield generation attached to spot digital asset holdings. This strategic initiative aligns Fidelity with a broader trend among major asset management firms expanding product structures for crypto exchange-traded funds.
Grayscale originally became the initial US product provider to enable staking within spot crypto exchange-traded vehicles in October 2025.
Following that precedent, competitor BlackRock launched its ETHB trust with native staking capabilities in February 2026, creating direct competitive pressure within the institutional marketplace.
In contrast, asset manager Bitwise previously sought authorization to incorporate staking features into its Ether ETF but ultimately chose to withdraw its application in September 2025.
Analysis published in May 2026 by Seeking Alpha contributor Ryne Mauck pointed out that the lack of staking put FETH at a relative disadvantage compared to rival funds.
Since its trading debut in July 2024, the FETH vehicle generated $2.13 billion in inflows on a cumulative net basis through August 11, 2026, according to data from Farside Investors.
Ahead of Wednesday trading on August 12, 2026, FETH shares registered a pre-market gain of 2.4%, leading price performance across most spot Ether funds, according to market data from Yahoo Finance.
The regulatory process will continue as federal regulators evaluate the technical provisions and risk disclosures submitted in the amended prospectus.
