This policy explains how Blockchain Journal (“BlockchainJournal”, “we” or “the publication”) handles personal data when readers visit blockchainjournal.news, contact the newsroom, request a correction or subscribe to an optional mailing list. It applies together with our Cookie Policy and Terms of Use.
Controller and contact
The controller for the processing described here is Blockchain Journal, operator of blockchainjournal.news. Privacy requests may be sent to [email protected] or through the contact page. Blockchain Journal has not published a separate data protection officer contact because no such appointment has been identified as applicable to the current operation.
Data we handle
- Website and security data: requested URL, date and time, IP address and technical request information processed by our hosting and security infrastructure.
- Privacy-friendly analytics: page, referrer, general device and browser category and approximate country or region. We use a self-hosted Plausible Analytics instance at
data.blockchainjournal.news. It does not set analytics cookies or store raw IP addresses or full user-agent strings; it produces aggregated audience statistics. - Messages: name, email address, message and supporting material voluntarily submitted through a contact or correction request.
- Newsletter data: email address and consent record only when a reader separately chooses to subscribe. Sending a contact request does not enroll the sender in marketing.
Purposes and legal bases
- Delivering pages, preventing abuse and maintaining security: legitimate interests in operating a secure publication and compliance with legal obligations.
- Aggregated audience measurement and service improvement: legitimate interests in understanding overall readership without persistent tracking or behavioral profiles.
- Answering messages, correction requests and collaboration enquiries: steps requested by the sender and our legitimate interest in newsroom accountability and communication.
- Sending newsletters: consent. Consent can be withdrawn at any time without affecting earlier lawful processing.
- Establishing, exercising or defending legal claims and meeting binding obligations: legal obligation or legitimate interests, as applicable.
Providers and recipients
Data may be processed only as necessary by our hosting and server providers, Cloudflare for delivery and security, our self-hosted Plausible installation for aggregate measurement, WordPress/WPForms for form delivery, and email or newsletter providers used to respond or send a requested subscription. Professional advisers or public authorities may receive data when legally required. We do not sell personal data or provide it to data brokers or advertisers for behavioral profiling.
International processing
Technical providers may process data from more than one jurisdiction. Where an international transfer is subject to data-protection restrictions, Blockchain Journal relies on an applicable adequacy decision, contractual safeguards or another lawful transfer mechanism. Readers may ask for information about the safeguard relevant to their request.
Retention
- Contact and correction correspondence is kept only while the matter remains relevant, normally no longer than 24 months after closure unless a legal issue requires longer preservation.
- Newsletter data is kept until withdrawal or unsubscribe; a minimal suppression record may be retained to respect that choice.
- Security logs are kept for the shortest operational period reasonably required to investigate abuse and normally no longer than 12 months unless an incident requires longer preservation.
- Plausible statistics are aggregated. Raw IP addresses and full user-agent strings are not stored by Plausible; historical aggregate reports may be retained for editorial measurement.
Your rights
Subject to the law that applies to the request, a person may ask for access, rectification, deletion, restriction, portability or objection, and may withdraw consent. We may request proportionate information to verify identity. A person may also complain to the Andorran Data Protection Agency (APDA) or, where another law applies, the competent supervisory authority in their place of residence.
Children
The site provides general news and is not designed to collect data from children. A parent or guardian who believes a child submitted personal data may contact us to request review and deletion.
Security and policy changes
We use proportionate technical and organizational safeguards, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security. Material changes to this policy will be reflected on this page with an updated review date. If a change requires new consent, it will not be applied retroactively without that consent.
