This policy describes cookies and similar browser technologies used on blockchainjournal.news. It should be read with the Privacy Policy.
Current approach
Blockchain Journal does not currently use analytics cookies, advertising cookies or cross-site behavioral tracking. Audience measurement uses a self-hosted Plausible Analytics script at data.blockchainjournal.news. Plausible does not place cookies or persistent identifiers in the browser; raw IP addresses and full user-agent strings are not stored, and reporting is aggregated.
Because the current public site does not require optional tracking cookies, no cookie-consent banner is displayed. Removing an unnecessary banner avoids asking readers to consent to processing that is not taking place.
Cookies that may be used
| Name or family | Provider | Purpose | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|---|
wordpress_logged_in_*, wordpress_sec_* | Blockchain Journal / WordPress | Authentication and account security for authorized administrators or users. | Session or the WordPress authentication period; not set for ordinary anonymous reading. |
wp-settings-* | Blockchain Journal / WordPress | Remember an authenticated user’s dashboard preferences. | Up to one year; not set for ordinary anonymous reading. |
comment_author_* | Blockchain Journal / WordPress | Remember details only when a reader actively chooses that option while commenting, where comments are available. | Up to approximately one year or until deleted in the browser. |
Security or challenge cookies, such as cf_clearance, when triggered | Cloudflare | Distinguish legitimate requests, mitigate abuse and retain successful security challenges. | Only for the security period configured for the challenge. |
Third-party links and embeds
Links to third-party websites do not set third-party cookies merely because they appear in an article. If Blockchain Journal later introduces an embed, advertising product or other optional technology that stores or reads non-essential information on a device, it must be blocked until the reader has a real choice to accept or reject it. This policy and the consent controls will be updated before that change is enabled.
Browser controls
Readers can delete or block cookies through their browser. Blocking essential authentication or security cookies may prevent protected functions from working but does not prevent access to ordinary editorial pages. Browser privacy controls do not alter the cookieless nature of Plausible measurement.
