According to calculations by The Block analysts, in the entire history of the cryptoindustry, the amount of funds stolen from large exchanges exceeded $ 1.35 billion.
It is noteworthy that more than half of this amount (59%), the attackers obtained during 2018. The diagram below illustrates the largest in the history of cryptoindustry hacks of centralized exchanges:
As you can see, the Coincheck Japanese Exchange, hacked in January 2018 , leads in this ranking.
The following screenshot shows the dynamics of the stolen funds by year. According to analysts, since the beginning of this year, four hacks have occurred, during which approximately $ 69 million were stolen (taking into account the recent hacker attack on Binance ).
2018 – the most successful year for attackers. However, 62% of the total amount stolen that year is Coincheck.
Also, a significant amount of funds was stolen in 2014 from the Mt. Gox, which at that time carried out most of the trading operations.
Recall that in the beginning of this year the Bithumb , Cryptopia and DragonEx exchanges were hacked. Also in February, a hacking and leaking of a large amount of data from the Coinmama bitcoin exchanger with 1.3 million users occurred .
