The cybersecurity company Prevailion found that the tools for cryptocurrency investors targeted a large-scale phishing attack MasterMana Botnet cost only $ 160.
MasterMana Botnet massively sends emails on behalf of existing companies with an infected file. As soon as the victim opens it, a chain of actions is launched that complicates the detection of the virus. As a result, a fileless backdoor is installed on the computer to gain remote access.
Hackers inject malicious code into Microsoft Office files, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher. To empty the wallets, they use Azorult software, which steals personal data and passwords.
According to Prevailion, the MasterMana Botnet campaign began in December 2018. As of September 24th, she remained active. Over the current year, the botnet interacted with approximately 72,000 devices.
The rental price for a year of virtual dedicated server (VPS) is estimated at $ 60, and the Azorult Trojan was sold at Russian hacker forums for $ 100 at the beginning of the year.
Prior to this, the costs of hackers were even lower, because in the attack they used the Revenge Rat Trojan, which is distributed free of charge, the researchers emphasized.
Recall that earlier, the attackers created a phishing site for digital currency Facebook, which is outwardly indistinguishable from the official page of the Calibra wallet.
