Roskomnadzor is working on new tools for the complete blocking of the Telegram messenger. This was on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), said the head of department, Alexander Zharov, writes RIA Novosti.

He said that Telegram is now blocked by IP-protocol, but this is not enough.

“It is obvious that any application to which Telegram belongs is much more complicated – its IP protocols are tied to a specific set of IP addresses worldwide, but proxy servers and other bypass protocols are used. Therefore, counteraction by IP protocol gives a very unstable effect, ”admitted Zharov.

In the future, Roskomnadzor intends to resolve this issue “strategically”.

“We are working in this direction, improving the unloading, but if we talk about a strategic solution of this issue, it is in the future and not connected with blocking by IP protocol. We are working on it, ”he explained.

Alexander Zharov did not specify how the locks held by his office reflected on Telegram’s work.

“I don’t know, we don’t track it. But I promise that Telegram will continue to hang, ” he concluded.

Recall that Telegram messenger was formally blocked on the territory of the Russian Federation in April 2018 for refusing to provide the FSB with keys to decrypt user messages. Lawyers Telegram then pointed out that the requirements of the special services are technically and legally unrealizable.

Earlier, Zharov acknowledged that isolation of the RuNet is technically impossible, but then he changed his mind .
