In accordance with the regulator’s requirement, South Korean cryptobirds will indemnify users in the event of hacking or other failures in their systems. This is reported by the local edition of Yonhap News .
Thus, the Commission on Fair Trade has obliged five local cryptocurrency exchanges, among which Bithumb, hacked in the spring , to make changes to the rules for providing services. According to new regulations, platforms are now fully responsible for the loss of user funds.
It is noteworthy that the exchanges will be obliged to pay damages to their customers even if the loss of funds is not their fault. Previously, the platforms should have been financially liable for possible damage only if it was proved that it occurred due to the company's negligent attitude to the security of its systems.
Note that in January, South Korean authorities summed up the results of a check of 21 cryptocurrency exchanges for compliance with security requirements. According to its results, only seven sites – Upbit, Bithumb, Gopax, Korbit, Coinone, Hanbitco and Huobi Korea – received a positive conclusion from regulators.
Recall, according to the report of the company CipherTrace, in the first quarter of the bitcoin exchange lost $ 356 million as a result of hacker attacks and other fraudulent activities.
