The Moscow law firm Zheleznikov & Partners is initiating criminal cases in Russia on behalf of the affected users of the bankrupt Bitcoin exchange Mt.Gox. They reported this to former Air Force officer Andy Peg.

Lawyers believe that they will achieve compensation from 170 to 200 thousand military-technical cooperation due to "close cooperation with law enforcement agencies." They already allegedly identified the identities of some potential defendants, and the rest should be found by law enforcement officers.

The company explained that the defendants would either directly compensate the victims for their losses from their own pockets or acquire their right to claim compensation. As a fee for a successful refund, Zheleznikov & Partners will charge 50% of the amount from customers.

According to company representatives, they have already met with the trustee of Mt.Gox in Tokyo. He allegedly cannot act on behalf of all the victims and quickly respond to situations in the Russian criminal process due to the strict provisions of Japanese law.

Lawyers intend to conclude a cooperation agreement with the trustee, giving them the right to speak on behalf of the victims and conduct business. This is not a class action lawsuit.

Another difficulty may be the lack of a clear legal framework for cryptocurrencies in Russia, lawyers said.

Earlier, Zheleznikov & Partners initiated a police investigation into the case of one of the clients of the WEX exchange. Lawyers did not disclose the details of the “WEX case” for reasons of confidentiality.

“This will be an unprecedented case based on the legal strategy that we implemented earlier.”
