The payment system of the Telegram Open Network (TON) project, despite its scope, is unlikely to be actively used by the Russians. This was in a comment by RIA Novosti the director of the ANO "Digital Platforms" Arseny Shcheltsin.
In his opinion, the project will be primarily interesting as a development environment.
“Sometimes our cashback at 20-30% is not attractive to our citizens, they are unlikely to massively use this payment system. But the platform-based application development ecosystem is likely to be the largest in Russia, ”said Shcheltsin.
The expert also pointed out the similarity of the TON project with the digital currency Libra, developed by the social network Facebook
“Neither Libra nor TON have their own ecosystem of payment processes, they have yet to grow it. However, against the background of problems, Libra TON looks quite promising. It’s not a problem for Telegram to make 200-300 million users, it’s enough for all users to give out their wallet, ” Shcheltsin added.
The growth of users of the TON payment system will also depend on the success of the project team in the development field, independent expert Gleb Kostarev points out.
“Potentially, acquaintance of the messenger audience with cryptocurrencies can bring new investors to the market and accelerate the adoption of blockchain technologies, ” he said.
Earlier, The New York Times, citing several TON investors, said that the Gram digital currency will be launched “within the next two months,” which fits into the project’s official roadmap.
In case of violation of the deadlines, all agreements for the purchase of Gram tokens with investors of the project will be canceled .
In turn, BlockchainJournal reported that the repeated postponement of the launch of the main TON blockchain network forces investors to sell Gram tokens in the secondary market in violation of the agreement.
