Weder di Mauro, president of the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), is confident that regulators are unlikely to allow Facebook to launch the Libra digital currency project. It is reported by CNBC .
“What Libra did shocked the central banks ,” said di Mauro.
According to her, monetary regulators did not expect such a sudden appearance of a private currency created by a private company.
“That's why probably nothing will happen. After all, as you know, regulators are saying right now that they will not allow this , ”she added.
However, di Mauro is confident that soon there will be digital currencies issued by both private companies and banks.
“If the central banks unite, they will be able to issue a global currency,” the head of CEPR shared her opinion.
Recall, speaking to Congress, Mark Zuckerberg said that Facebook will quit Libra if the project starts without the consent of the regulator.
BlockchainJournal also previously reported that the Chinese giant Tencent sees Libra as a serious threat to WeChat Pay and Alipay.
