The technology provider Avnet, on the Fortune 500 list, announced support for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as payment options. The company from Phoenix, Arizona realized this opportunity with the support of BitPay processing service.

In partnership with @BitPay , we're now accepting cryptocurrency! Ordering and completing a transaction. Find out how you can pay now in @Bitcoin . #AvnetReachFurther https://t.co/S2wv0xqjWv pic.twitter.com/XOf6ta2gIP

    – Avnet (@Avnet) March 19, 2019

“We are working with BitPay to make secure payments via blockchain for all customers, allowing them to focus on developing their own products, rather than on payment issues, ” said Sanny Trin, vice president of Avnet for demand creation.

The company’s statement also says that it cooperates with the Bitcoin.com portal regarding “creating a new hardware wallet suitable for storing cryptocurrencies and providing the highest level of transaction security.”

Recall that a number of representatives of the Bitcoin community encourages companies and users to boycott BitPay services. The problem is that BitPay, without any warning and discussions with the Bitcoin protocol developers, refused to support the standard payment scheme for end users to request payment described in BIP21.

Instead, the company adopted the BIP70 scheme, which does not have broad support. It was originally offered in 2013 by Gavin Addsen and Mike Hearn, the developers who received sad fame after creating the so-called “black lists” of bitcoins.

At the same time, in January of this year, the non-profit organization Wikimedia Foundation, managing the free encyclopedia Wikipedia, entered into a partnership with BitPay to receive donations in Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash.
