The chairman of the Iranian central bank Abdolnacer Hemmati said that the government of the country is considering the possibility of legalizing mining cryptocurrencies, reports PressTV.
It should be noted that earlier the Iranian central bank intended to ban Bitcoin payments and achieve the consolidation of restrictions at the legislative level, and most recently the Ministry of Energy proposed to cancel preferential tariffs for miners.
The economic problems of Iran, triggered by international sanctions, are forcing many residents of the country to use Bitcoin as a means of accumulation. Until recently, Iran showed huge trading volumes on Localbitcoins, but then the Finnish company was forced to cease operations in this Islamic republic.
Thus, the Iranian government allegedly intends to set export tariffs for miners, and also somehow introduce the mined coins into the “national economic cycle”. The authorities probably consider cryptocurrencies as one of the ways to circumvent international restrictions.
Recall that in February, the media reported on the launch of the gold-backed digital currency of the four Iranian banks.
