On February 28, in Athens, Russian lawyers Alexander Vinnik, suspected of laundering $ 4 billion through the cryptocurrency exchange BTC-e, Zoya Konstandopoulou and Timofey Musatov, will hold a press conference at which they will tell about the violation of the rights of his client in a Greek prison. Announcement of the event is at the disposal of the editors of BlockchainJournal.
According to the defense, the term of Russian pre-trial detention has already exceeded the norms established by the Greek Constitution – 19 months instead of 18. Also, lawyers argue that the Greek authorities did not bring any charges against Vinnik, there are no court hearings and no sentencing.
“The only grounds for the conclusion of Alexander Vinnik are requests for extradition, filed by the United States, Russia and France, accusing him of being a technical specialist of the BTC-e platform, ” the advocates say.
Despite the fact that the suspect himself agreed to extradition to Russia, his extradition was not made due to a conflict of requests from the United States and France.
Along with this, Alexander Vinnik continues the hunger strike begun in November 2018 .
“After 88 days of hunger strike, Alexander lost about 30% of body weight and now his weight is 57 kg. His life hangs in the balance, since the medical examination scheduled for him is disrupted for the third time in a month and a half, ”lawyers say.

At the upcoming conference, the defense intends to publicize the circumstances and documents in the case of the Russians, indicating systematic violations of his rights to a fair trial and decent treatment.
Recall Alexander Vinnik was detained in Greece at the request of the American authorities on July 25, 2017. In June 2018, Vinnik was arrested in absentia in Russia on charges of cyber fraud on a large scale.
At the moment, there have been several court decisions on the extradition of Vinnik – at the request of the United States, at the request of France and two decisions at the request of Russia.
In December, the Supreme Court of Greece supported the extradition of a Russian to France . However, the final decision on the case will be taken by the Minister of Justice of Greece.
