Russia topped the ranking of countries with the highest number of malicious programs for the Android platform. This is evidenced by research data from the international antivirus company ESET.

One of the most pressing threats to Android devices in the first half of 2019 was banking malware. According to ESET experts, the number of spyware and Trojans for stealing financial data is growing every year.

Another threat is mobile ransomware, for example, Filecoder.C. This program was distributed in Reddit pornography sections. As a result of her activities, almost all the files on the victim’s smartphone were encrypted.

The largest growth among mobile threats over the past year has been shown by cryptocurrency miners such as Coinminer. The number of such threats increased by 72% compared to the previous year.

“Most Android smartphones use outdated versions of the OS – the current Android Pie is installed in 10.4% of users, and only 0.1% of smartphones work on the latest Android 10. This puts the remaining 89.5% of Android users at increased risk from mobile threats, ” ESET said.

Experts remind that it takes an average of 51 days to remove a malicious application from the Google Play store, so they advise users not to neglect anti-virus protection for smartphones and tablets.

Recall that in May ESET employees discovered the fake app Trezor Mobile Wallet in the Google Play store, disguised as a popular wallet, which at that time was downloaded by more than a thousand users.
