Golos blockchain platform will change the payment order for posts

Golos project leaders voted to change the reward curve for authors and curators. The proposal was made a few days ago by the @lex leader.

The majority supported a convergent linear curve already tested on the Steemit platform and having the formula ((x + s) ^ 2 – s ^ 2)) / (x + 4s) = (x ^ 2 + 2xs) / (x + 4s) = x * (x + 2s) / (x + 4s) = (x + 2s) / (x + 4s) * x.

According to the Golos team, when using this curve, accounts with low voting power can receive the highest author and curator payments. The converging line shifts the effectiveness of voting towards average values, thereby, partly, giving greater stability to the economy, fairness and honesty in terms of rewards for authors and curators of posts.

Until the 17th hard fork, the Golos blockchain platform used a quadratic curve and in the initial stages it encouraged users to buy tokens and transfer them to the stack. However, as capital accumulated, there was a slowdown due to crowding out of entry-level and mid-level players, it was becoming more and more difficult to break into the top spotlight for decent and creative content.

“Then the community insisted on adopting a linear curve function, which provided the same effect in proportion to the weight / strength of the account’s vote. But along with reducing inequality, the “line” deprived Voice of the drive and excitement of the economic game, and the process of curation turned into a boring scrolling of content tapes and setting up all kinds of bots for automation with an easily predictable result, ” @lex leader said in a comment to BlockchainJournal.

According to him, the converging linear curve of rewards shifts the effectiveness of voting towards average values, while the larger the potential payout, the lower the increase in the actual reward.

The change will take effect immediately after one of the top leaders clicks the try-exec button, after which a new reward pool will be created. Emission will first go to both pools, however, when all the posts of the old pool are paid, the old one will be eliminated.

Remuneration for all posts published before the decision will be accrued according to the old rules.

Note that an easy change in the parameters of the Golos blog platform became possible after she moved to the CyberWay blockchain.

“One of the strong arguments for transferring the Golos application to the new CyberWay blockchain was the difficulty of implementing even simple changes on the client, because they needed to be made through the blockchain’s hard fork. The de facto Golos client application was spliced with the blockchain. After moving to CyberWay, the Golos app runs on smart contracts. Accordingly, changes to the basic parameters are made much more quickly.
