On May 4, the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) solution will be updated and a new domain name registry will be launched. All existing domains will be converted into non-interchangeable tokens (NFT-tokens), which can be stored and transferred to other users.

The upgrade will affect 300 thousand .eth domains, as well as .xyz and .luxe . Migration of domain names will take place until May 4, 2020.
ENS allows you to bind addresses on the Ethereum network to the above domains in order to make them more “readable”. The solution is designed to make access to blockchain assets, decentralized applications and smart contracts convenient from the point of view of user experience.
Previously, domain registration took place through blind auctions, but the developers claim that the process will speed up significantly in the new registry. Users will need to make two transactions: the first is to express the intention to register the name and the second is to directly implement it.
For domain names consisting of seven characters or less, a three-step registration process will be maintained, but all other .eth will be available for $ 5 per year.
Recall. .Luxe addresses were implemented in the summer of 2018.
