Polish police arrested Crypto Capital president Ivan Manuel Molina Lee for alleged involvement in a drug cartel and money laundering through the Bitfinex Bitcoin exchange. This is reported by the Polish media.

Presumably, it was the Panamanian processing company Crypto Capital that the exchange entrusted $ 880 million, which were frozen by the authorities. To cover the loss, Bitfinex borrowed funds from an affiliate company Tether, and then held a $ 1 billion token sale.

Ivan Manuel Molina Lee is also the president of Crypto, a company registered in Michalowice (Poland). This company is almost entirely owned by a Panamanian company.

Crypto served Bitfinex deposit accounts at Spółdzielczy Bank in Skierniewice, with a turnover of up to $ 1.5 billion per day.

Lee was previously wanted by the Polish authorities on charges of laundering money from Colombian drug cartels through cryptocurrencies. The prosecutor's office arrested 1.5 billion zlotys ($ 390 million) of illegal funds in the bank Spółdzielczy. It became the largest confiscation in its history.

According to the Decrypt portal, several other large crypto exchanges, including Binance, Kraken and BitMEX, as well as the defunct QuadrigaCX , used the processing services of Crypto Capital.

Recall that in the United States continues the trial against Bitfinex, accused of hiding from investors borrowing funds from Tether. The exchange also leaves no attempts to gain access to $ 880 million frozen in Crypto Capital.
