Hidden crypto miners remain the dominant threat to organizations around the world. This is evidenced by data from the 2019 Security Report from leading provider of cyber security solutions Check Point Software Technologies Ltd.
Last year, crypto miners consistently occupied the first four lines of the ratings of the most active threats and attacked 37% of organizations around the world. In 2019, despite the decline in the value of all cryptocurrencies, 20% of companies continue to undergo attacks of crypto miners every week.
"Malware has evolved noticeably to exploit high-level vulnerabilities and circumvent sandboxes and other defenses to increase the intensity of infection," the report says.
Mobile malware attacks ranked second in terms of prevalence, and in 2018 affected 33% of organizations around the world. The spread of viruses occurs through pre-installed applications, and through application stores.
The multi-vector botnets were the third most common: they attacked 18% of organizations in order to launch DDoS attacks and spread other malware. In 2018, 49% of organizations subjected to DDoS attacks were infected with botnets.
At the same time, Check Point specialists recorded a significant drop in the share of ransomware programs – in 2018 they affected only 4% of organizations worldwide.
