US prosecutors filed a lawsuit against Russian Alexander Vinnik, whose extradition Washington is seeking from Greece, and the now-defunct BTC cryptoborg, demanding a refund of $ 100 million for violating the provisions of the Banking Secrecy Law. Reports about it TASS.

The lawsuit was filed on Thursday, July 25th. The US authorities are demanding that Winnik pay a fine of $ 12 million. At the same time, according to prosecutors, the exchange must pay $ 88,596,314.

Also, a lawsuit filed in a federal court in the Northern District of California states that neither the PTS leadership, nor Winnick himself, who held the “senior management position” in the company, did not attempt to register their activities on the Financial Crime Network (FinCEN). In addition, they allegedly did not comply with anti-money laundering requirements and did not report suspicious activity.

The prosecutor's office also noted that about 700 thousand users around the world, many of whom were from the United States, used VTS services. In particular, the lawsuit states that only 21 thousand BTC worth about $ 296 million were transferred from the territory of the States through the online exchange.

Recall that Alexander Vinnik was detained in Greece at the request of the American authorities on July 25, 2017. He was accused of laundering up to $ 4 billion through the BTC-e cryptocurrency exchange. In June 2018, Vinnik was arrested in absentia in Russia on charges of cyber fraud on a large scale.

In addition to Russia, the request for the extradition of Russians filed a few more countries. The court satisfied almost every one of them. So, the request of the USA , two requests of Russia and one from France were approved.

It is worth noting that lawyers of Alexander Vinnik have repeatedly declared violations of the rights of his client. Vinnik himself even went on a hunger strike because of the judicial "lawlessness". In April, his condition worsened greatly – he was taken to court in an ambulance with a police escort.

Earlier, BlockchainJournal reported that the Greek court extended the detention of Vinnik , suspected of laundering at least $ 4 billion through the BTC-e cryptocurrency exchange, until January 25, 2020.
