Brad Garlinghouse, head of California-based Fintech startup Ripple, announced a record influx of new customers amid the recent Facebook announcement about the launch of its own digital currency. It is reported by Fortune .
So, he noted that the Libra coin launch announcement prompted financial institutions to consider using xCurrent software for bank payments and XRP token for cross-border transfers.
He is convinced that now large banks are likely to consider the possibility of switching from traditional SWIFT software to alternative technologies.
“It was a call to action,” Garlinghouse commented on Facebook's initiative.
At the same time, he noted that the current week was one of the best in terms of the number of contracts signed by Ripple during the entire existence of the company.
“I’ll send a box of champagne to David Marcus, the Libra manager,” said Garlinghaus.
In addition, CEO Ripple commented on the partnership with MoneyGram , which suggests that a startup will acquire 8-10% of the shares of one of the world's largest money transfer systems.
It is worth noting that, against the background of the news on cooperation, the shares of MoneyGram soared by 168%, while the price of the XRP token this event had almost no effect.
Garlinghaus explained the lack of growth of the coin by a large number of “nonsense” and “noise” accompanying the industry.
“I think that it’s really difficult for people to determine what is worth attention, and what is just noise. This [partnership] is a serious step for Ripple, and over time people will believe that it was a serious step for the entire industry. ”
CEO Ripple also stressed that cooperation with MoneyGram is evidence of the relevance of the xRapid payment solution based on the XRP token.
Garlinghouse also told about the differences between the first cryptocurrency and the Ripple token. So, he called Bitcoin "digital gold", while XRP – "intermediate currency", which provides an effective solution for fiat transfers. He noted that these two coins are not competitors and, in general, Garlinghouse does not think that only one cryptocurrency will ever be the main one on the market.
“I have a bitcoin. I am confident in its long-term growth. I think Bitcoin is a way to preserve value, ”he added.
Recall that for the first time MoneyGram and Ripple entered into a partnership in early 2018.
