will begin testing equipment to ensure "sovereign runet" in the Urals

The Urals will become the first equipment testing region with the function of deep traffic filtering (DPI) to implement the sovereign runet law. By the end of the year it will begin to be tested in the entire federal district, RBC reports.

According to the publication, the equipment has already been installed in Yekaterinburg, now it is being placed in other cities, including Tyumen .

“As far as we know, this is a solution called EcoNATDPI, which allows you to filter traffic and solve the problem with a lack of IPv4 addresses,” one of the publication’s sources said.

In parallel with the DPI installation, a Bypass backup mechanism will be introduced:

“If the DPI was cut off under load or, for example, the electricity went out, then traffic goes through this Bypass. Naturally, no filtering occurs in this case, but at the same time, the service does not suffer from subscribers, ”said a participant in the pilot project.

The test will involve all the major telecommunications operators in the region, including Rostelecom, MTS, MegaFon and VimpelCom. At the same time, it will mainly affect home Internet users.

One of the sources said that DPI does not work around the clock as part of the pilot:

“This is testing – turn it on, watch it, then turn it off. They try to ensure that all this passes unnoticed by users. ”

However, according to Dmitry Kozelev, chief editor of Znak.com, users have not noticed any special changes due to the installation of equipment in the Urals.

DPI is being implemented by the Data – Processing and Automation Center (DTAC) company, which was recently headed by the former head of Nokia in the Russian Federation and former deputy communications minister Rashid Ismailov.

Earlier it was reported about the start of the installation of DPI equipment, but the specific region was not called. It is a hardware-software complex of the Russian manufacturer "RDP.ru", 15% of which is owned by the state.

Recall, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law on the isolation of Runet in May. Its implementation will require at least 30 billion rubles.
