Report: ISIS, al-Qaida and Hamas are funded by cryptocurrency using Telegram

The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) published a report stating that terrorist organizations ISIS, al-Qaeda and Hamas receive funding in the cryptocurrency using the Telegram messenger. It is reported by Jewish News Syndicate .

In particular, MEMRI noted that in January, representatives of Izz al-Din al-Kassam (the Hamas military wing) used Telegram and WhatsApp messengers, as well as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram social networks to urge their supporters to send the organization’s funds to BTC.

The publication also says that on March 26, the Syrian jihadist Abdullah al-Muhaysini posted a video on his Telegram channel urging Muslims to support Hamas with donations in bitcoin.

According to researchers, the problem will only worsen after Telegram launches its own blockchain and its native digital currency Gram. A full launch of the Telegram Open Network (TON) project is expected in October .

MEMRI said it had already provided relevant information to US government and other Western government agencies. In addition, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has already received a letter from the American Congress demanding that he immediately respond to the Institute’s information.

Recall that previously, UN representative Neil Walsh expressed concern about the use of cryptocurrencies to finance terrorism.
